Needs Assessment

We consider each student’s strengths, achievements, interests, and any areas that need improvement, to create a strategic plan to help them find colleges that are the best fit for them and provide a successful college experience.

Interview Prep

The college interview is a chance for you to show an admissions representative or alumni interviewer who you are and why you are a good fit for their school. The questions that you’ll be asked in a college interview are designed to provide the college with information about your personality, your academic and extracurricular strengths, and how you will fit into campus life. We’ll work with you through mock interviews so that you can feel confident, and be able to come up with questions of your own to ask the interviewer. Colleges want to know that you are truly interested in attending their school.

Career Counseling

While some high school students feel certain about the career they want to pursue, many do not know the path they want to take. As a high school student you don’t have to know your specific future profession, but it’s helpful when choosing a college to have some direction in order to pick a college with a major that interests you. Our career counselor works with students through a set of tests and questions to gain an understanding of their strengths, interests, and personality designed to find the major and possible career direction that best suits them.

College List Development

We work with students to create a balanced list of colleges to apply to. Students benefit by having enough safety, target, and reach schools on their list so that when the decisions come in, students have several options. We encourage families to keep an open mind. There may be colleges that students and parents are unaware of that are a good fit for a student in terms of location, the majors offered, social life, and affordability. We work with students to help them research colleges as well as looking within themselves to help best understand colleges where they will be successful. Some questions we discuss with students to help them create their college list are:
  • Would you prefer to be in a rural, suburban, or urban environment?
  • Does the college have the major you are pursuing?
  • Would you prefer a college with large class sizes or smaller ones?
  • What are the extracurricular activities that you are interested in? Does the college offer those?
  • Would you prefer a college that leans more toward a liberal or conservative environment?
  • What housing options are available?
  • What financial aid and/or merit aid are available?
  • Is the college’s total cost of attendance affordable if no aid is offered?
  • What internship and/or research opportunities are available?
  • How helpful is the career office with job placement after graduation?
  • What is the retention rate for first year students?

Extracurricular Activities

What are admissions officers looking for when considering a student’s extracurricular activities? How many extracurricular activities should you have? Which activities will look best on your application? Are there specific extracurricular activities that can help you get accepted to Ivy League schools?
Gaining admission to top universities is extremely competitive and showcasing your talents, interests, and entrepreneurial endeavors through extracurricular activities can sometimes help you gain acceptance.
Our advisors brainstorm with students about their interests, and advise them on extracurricular activities that can help to strengthen their college applications.

Summer Internships and Programs

Exploring your career interests through summer programs and internships can provide insight into the working world and help better define your career direction. It has the power to distinguish your application from the competition.
Our advisors work with students to help them evaluate and apply to summer internships, research opportunities, and summer programs.
We’ve helped students land internships, research, and summer programs at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), an AI company, Stanford University’s neuro lab, a crypto company, a hedge fund company, and more.

Our advisors answer all these questions, strategizing with students on which test may be the best choice for them, and work with the student to create a test-taking timeline.

Essays

Your essays provide admissions officers with an understanding of who you are. It tells them about your interests, what motivates you, what you are curious about, and how you will fit into their campus. We will work with you through as many drafts as needed for all your college application essays, including the personal statement, supplemental essays, the University of California Personal Insight Questions (PIQs), and essays for scholarship applications, in order for you to tell your story and grab the attention of admissions officers.
